POULTRY HYGIENE

Cleanliness as they say is close to Godliness but in poultry cleanliness is close to healthy and productive birds. In poultry there are so many causes of diseases and more of them which farmer take lesser attention to is Proper Hygiene.

Proper Hygiene in respect to their feeding equipments, drinking equipments, housing (cages). Poultry farming is not for a lazy man or woman because for the more lazy the farmer is the more expose the birds are to diseases. Many people don't see poultry hygiene as something important because they are more focus on the poultry productivity forgetting that if the birds are not well kept they won't be productive. Poultry get dirty through different means. Some of them are:

Through dust

Through feeding (spillage)

Through water leakage

Through birds behavior (some birds are wild)

Insects and rodents

DUST

Dust from the emotions are trapped on poultry house nets, doors and cages preventing easy flow of air within the poultry house.

FEEDS SPILLAGE

It is another cause of poultry sorta. Feeds particles that drops on the ground or falls on the cages in the process of feeding if leave for long decompose and attracts certain bacteria into the poultry house causing infection for birds.

WATER LEAKAGE

Water leakage if happens mixes with the poultry Litre causing the evolve of Ammonia gas especially in deep Litre system. First attracts a lot of germs causing infection to poultry birds.

HOW TO KEEP YOUR FARM CLEAN

Provision of foot bathe at the entrance of the poultry house

Regular dusting of pen house net

Removal of curbweb

Blocking of any visible hole caused by rodent.

Proper placement/hanging of feeders and drinkers esp in deep litre system: Usage of automatic drinkers is advice

Regular cleaning of water pipe with sponge and water is advicable

In case of spillage in deep litre system, poultry litre should be packed immediately and dispose properly.

In battery cage system, feeds trough should be clean with water and foam regularly. Water pipes should be cleaned both externally (using water and foam) and internally (proper flushing to remove any drop segment). Nipples and Nipple cups should be clean with foam.

Regular sweeping of the poultry house at least twice in a day.

Regular packing of Litre of at least once in two days.

Cages should be dusting using short broom to remove any accumulated dust on mesh.

Lastly, when birds are to be stocked, the house and all equipments should be washed with germicide.If all this are done with a strong dedication the birds as a lesser chance of being expose to infection.
