What is Alkaline Soil?
Alkaline soil are clay soils with high pH(> 8.5), a poor soul structure and a low infiltration capacity.
Alkaline soils owe their unfavorable pysico chemichemical properties mainly to the dominating presence of sodium carbonate, which causes the soil to swell and difficult to clarify or settle.
They derive their name from the alkaline mental group of elements, to which sodium belongs, and which can induce bacisity.
Alkaline soils are basic, but not all basic soils are alkaline.
Alkaline soil is also referred to by some gardeners as “sweet soil.” and it usually contains a great deal of sodium, calcium and magnesium.
Because alkaline soil is less soluble than acidic or neutral soil, availability of nutrients is often limited.
